Who? Me? Yes, You! - Week 6

“Embracing Your Identity in Christ”

I Belong To God

So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. (Rom. 7:4)

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Do you remember your childhood days when all of your classmates would line up like little toy soldiers waiting….Waiting for the two really special people, called captains to choose members for their team? My palms get sweaty just typing the words because I remember dreading this process knowing that I would be called last. I remember saying it in my mind….”Martha Matthews! Martha Matthews! Martha Matthews! Choose me, please choose me.” Being called last or next to last never felt good because I knew someone was stuck with me. I wasn’t a valuable choice for any sports team. Everyone deeply desires to be chosen and to belong. To be known, attached, bound, accepted, desired? Of course this goes way beyond school days and marches right into today. Wanting to be asked to the lunch; to be a part of the small group; invited to go on the girl trip, to serve on the team, to bake a cake, sing a song, join the organization.

What good news to know that He chose you to be on His team. He called you by name. He wasn’t just stuck with you, He wants you. He died for you. He created you to belong.

• To belong to Him • To belong to family • To belong to the Body of Christ

He never intended for you to be alone. There is no line of waiting to see if your name is called.

Is. 43:1 says it all: “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.”

Ps. 100:3 – Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we belong to Him; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.

You matter because you belong to God – Creator of heaven and earth. That is a transformational belonging. You are His treasured possession.

Spend some time thanking God for choosing you. Ponder what it means to Belong to Him.

Do you always feel alone and that you don’t belong to anyone.

Back off Satan, I belong to God!
