Three Tall Lattes Please!

"Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!” Ps. 34:8

I well remember the day that my mom, sister and I were out shopping and decided to take a break and visit my son working at Starbucks. We all agreed we didn’t really want coffee but we wanted to surprise Jason. As we swung open the door to Starbucks, the smell of coffee overtook us. Our coffee sensors were awakened and before I knew what had taken place the words slipped from my mouth, “Three Tall Latte’s please!”

Sometimes we don’t know what we want. Our desire for God can grow cold and even disappear. Our taste for the word has turned lukewarm and prayer has ceased except for a quick thank you over a meal. We have no desire to study and know the Lord. The strings of our heart appear broken and praise music has lost its ability to move us. It’s as if we have fallen asleep and we need an awakening of our spirit. The enemy of our souls is eager to lull us to sleep and remove from us any desire for the things of the Lord. He loves it when our hearts grow cold like a forgotten coffee and our indifference quickly turns to unbelief. We loose our taste for spiritual things and we grow dim. Scripture addresses this critical problem.

“Awake, sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of our time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:14-17

I find the best way to awaken your spirit is to swing the door to His presence wide open. As Psalms 100:4-5 says,

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise; be thankful unto him and bless His name.”

Open the doors of His word and taste and see that He is good. Enter into prayer simply by inviting His Spirit to awaken you. Change the atmosphere by filling it up with worship. Let the aroma of His love overtake you and stir a thirsting desire deep within you.

God in His great love moved toward you through His son Jesus Christ. Because He moved toward us, we now can move toward Him. Go ahead! Crack the door open with a whisper for His presence to flood your heart and before you know it you will be asking for three tall lattes of the goodness of the Lord.
