Stuck On Thanksgiving

But thanks be to God, who hath given us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

But thanks be to God, who always leads us triumphantly as captives in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. (2 Corinthians 2:14)

The Wilson family piano is over a hundred years old. It traveled from Ohio to Georgia in the 1800’s as a love of my husband’s grandmother. It has many stories to tell as family and friends have gathered around, playing and singing, filling the room with joy and laughter. The keys are yellowed and some are broken and unusable. A few are just stuck in place and have to be lifted up to strike the cord and play the sound.

There is a key I want to continue to strike and that is “thanksgiving”. Like an old stuck piano key, I want to press it and hold it in place that my life song is one of thanks to God. Sometimes it takes great intent to lift it and play it again and again. The song of thanksgiving played over and over in our hearts will fill the atmosphere with joy.

Thanksgiving lifts a heavy burden. It turns despair into hope. It sees God’s touch in the smallest of things. It delights in the simple and recognizes the goodness of the Lord.

Our hearts are often in need of a tune up. I find that mine needs it every day; preferably early morning before I press the sour notes. Life can hit us hard over and over until a key here and there is knocked out of tune. Some are broken, but never beyond repair in the Master’s hand because He restores our souls.

What is your song sounding like these days? It might be in need of a tune up before you jump into the holiday frenzy. All around you will hear your song.

Let’s press the note of thanksgiving and get our hearts stuck on Him by giving thanks in all things. Pack up the pumpkins and haul out the holly, but keep thanksgiving prominent in your heart. Strategically place it on the mantel of your heart declaring to all that you have chosen the song of thanksgiving no matter what your life looks like.

The beauty and fragrance of Christ will flow through you like a beautiful sonnet or a fun waltz. Perhaps today it is a crazy, happy song causing others to look away from their problems; tomorrow a soft melody bringing peace to all who can hear.

Tune your instrument and join me as we make music together proclaiming:

Jesus is Lord.

He is King.

He is worthy of all praise and thanksgiving.
