One Giant Step

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 During these days of sheltering in place, my deck has become a very desirable destination. A bounty of meals has been eaten there and hours passed just listening to birds and gazing into the sky. Many nights it has been a sanctuary of worship and it has recently been named “Deck Church.” My two neighbors and I gather there often (practicing social distancing) and encouraging one another in the Lord. We share scripture, testify of what God is doing in our hearts, and we pray for each other’s families, our churches and our world. Sitting here typing, tears

Feeling Stuck Today

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Psalm 40:2 If honest, all marriages can testify that every day is not a script from a fairy tale storybook. Ed and I have bumped into a few places during our 29 years that have proven to be a little more than interesting. Though the fruit is not seen today, we know, by faith, that it is on the way. Robin tilled the dirt, prepared the soil, dug the holes, buried the seeds, and placed the tiny plants in careful rows. And now she waits. But she waits with intention. Every day she watches and she prays. She rids it of pest

Burst of Hope

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.” Psalm 42:11 Does life have you running a little low on hope? You know, like the car computer system warning you that you only have 20 more miles to go before running out of gas. Fear and anxiety will do that to you before you know it. It seems like you just filled up, and ding, all of life tells you a different story. The Psalmist knew it to be true and he offers himself encouragement in the Lord. I always said this would save us a lot of dollars if we would just counsel ourselves the same way. “Self, why are you cast down? O my soul, why are you in t
