I Found Him In The Dark

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. Psalm 139:7-12 It had been a wonderful day of adventure driving through the North Georgia Mountains. My husband loves days that include deciding where we are going as we go. I prefer a little more pl

A Serious Student

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 I made my way to the room where we have gathered every Sunday morning for many years. In the past we called it Sunday School, but for some reason that is outdated terminology now and we call it family group or small group. The name is different but the gathering is the same. A small group of believers who love God and love each other gather weekly to study His word, pray and love on one another. This Sunday morning I was quick to recognize something was a little different. There

Traveling Billboard

We were driving home through Atlanta traffic after a fun afternoon of play with our grandson. Ed drove while I gripped the door handle, barely peeking at the traffic. Only occasionally would I dare to move my eyes from the traffic app on my phone. The map of I-85 was lit up fully red like a Christmas display. I knew this wasn’t going to be over anytime soon. All of my focus was on the traffic situation and hoping Ed would drive us safely through it all. And then Ed pointed it out and said, “Look, that is interesting!” Of course I quickly peeked away from the phone and into the traffic and there it was plastered on the back of the small black car in the lane beside us. The bumper sticker simp

Living In The Square

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34 Spread before me were 12 crisp new calendar pages. As I sat with the year in hand, I handled the pages carefully as if I crumpled one it would mar something that was ahead. I could feel the weight of all of the unknowns. I had strong feelings about the New Year named “2020” that I had just entered. The new year stirred great anticipation and excitement and I loved the idea of leaving the past and stepping into the new. But what would fill these twelve pages? I barely whispered the words… “This represents the next year of my life.” But as soon as the words slippe

There Is Change In The Air

For years I have asked and received a word from God for the coming year. In the past, my word has been a scripture or even a single word denoting what’s to come—a road map of sorts. God promises His children that He will lead us where He wants us to go even when we make a wrong turn. Isaiah 30:21 tells us, “If you go the wrong way—to the right or to the left—you will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the right way. You should go this way, walk in it.” I didn’t ask for a word for 2020. Actually, I haven’t asked much of Him since March—since Andy died. I have just sat in His love and grace…waiting. This last year has been a different year spiritually for me. It has felt much like I have
