You Might Need A Set Of These Flashcards
“For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him. That is why it is through Him that we utter our Amen to God for His glory. 2 Corinthians 1:20
I remember as a child how my brother struggled with memorizing. I must have only been six years old when he was attempting to memorize a poem for school. All of the family was engaged to help Glenn learn this one little poem. I learned it long before he did and even at sixty-two years old; I am still able to quote it perfectly. I would do it for you now, except it is nothing but silly and has absolutely no meaning. I can still see in my mind’s eye the bathroom walls covered with math flash cards and spelling words. My mom tried everything to help her son learn the correct answers.
Yesterday the flash card memories re-presented themselves when Judy, from Nevada walked through our doors at Touching Hearts. In normal fashion, she came full of joy and thanksgiving. It was her story that stirred the old memories and awakened desire within me.
Her kids had made sure that she had a nice big, roomy first class seat, a wheelchair to deliver her to her seat and necessary instructions for the flight to Georgia. Her daughter told her she was sending her off with a set of flash cards and every card said the same thing.
“YES”
“Every card says ‘YES’, mama. When they ask you if you want water, YES. When they ask if you want food, YES. When they ask if you want a pillow, YES. Accept it all.” She went on with all the details of her flight and the excellent care that she received. She was celebrating her 90th birthday and it was as if the entire flight crew had been notified. They treated her like the princess that she is and she was over the top with all the lavish attention she received. They had paid for mama to have a first class seat and first class treatment, and they wanted to make certain that she received everything that was hers.
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” Ephesians 1:3
I began to think of all that Jesus paid for that I simply don’t receive. Why would we ignore that everything has been paid for and it is mine to receive? Often I just feel undeserving.
It may be that we have believed the lies for so long that we don’t know any other way of living.
The enemy has stolen our inheritance and we must take it back.
I want to step into the shoes of Judy’s daughter for a minute and tell you Jesus paid for you to have a first class seat. He chose you and paid for you and all the riches of heaven are yours. As a beloved son and daughter of His, you are well taken care of. He has already made provision for everything that you need. You just have to say YES!
It’s time that we make ourselves a set of YES flash cards in response to God:
Do you know that you are a son and daughter of the living God? YES
Will you let Me love you right there in the middle of the mess? YES
Will you trust Me in this dark place? YES
May I have that lie? YES
May I have that anger? YES
Are you hungry and may I feed you? YES
May I lift your head and give you joy? YES
Will you forgive? YES
Will you trust me again? YES
Will you share Christ with that one? YES
Will you give your money there? YES
Will you pray? YES
Would you like some grace? YES
Oh, Lord turn my heart to YES.
I want to enjoy all the blessings that are mine in Christ Jesus.”
