Deeper Still

Welcome to the re-launch of the Touching Hearts Blog entitled “Deeper Still.” This writing is my first since November 2021. This break allowed my friend and I to launch a new podcast entitled “A Burst of Hope". It is a great joy to sit at the table with other women of faith seeking hope in the midst of difficult times. Our hearts leap and burst forth with great hope as we hear of God's love, faithfulness, and goodness. You can check it out here.


I have chosen to use every means possible to share this tremendous, lavish love of God. It is a privilege to write words of encouragement in hopes of stirring your faith to grow deeper and deeper still. I join Paul in his prayer that we find in Ephesians 3:18-19.


I pray that you may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.


It feels as if Paul just couldn’t find enough words to describe this incredible love of God. He calls our attention to the width, length, height, and, yes, the depth of this love that surpasses everything. Not only to know this love but to ”be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”


Ponder this for a minute or a lifetime!


Try as we might, we can never plumb the depths of Christ’s love. He is unmeasurable.

A friend taught me to always have a measuring tape in my purse. “You never know when you might need to measure something.” I was thankful for the advice on a recent shopping trip. There sat the console table that I thought would be perfect for my family room once I coated it with a layer of magical chalk paint. I dug deep within my bag to find the flimsy little tape. I stretched it as far as it would go, marked the spot, and re-stretched it to reach the end of the marred wood. I felt the limitations of the measuring tape and the piece of wood. The result proved my estimation way off, as it lacked about twelve inches.


God’s love never comes up short. There are no limitations to His goodness and faithfulness. There is no measuring tape to mark out His ways and His thoughts. It is impossible to measure God or anything about Him. Yet we try to understand Him with our flimsy limited ability. Paul prayed that we might be able to “grasp” this incredible, lavish love of God.


Dear friend, you may feel unloved by others in your life, but know that God loves you, and He longs to fill you to the full measure of Himself. His love reaches high and low and far and wide. I pray that you will simply embrace Him and all that He offers.


How great is the love the Father has lavished on us that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

In this new season, I am honored to welcome seven other writers to our Deeper Still Blog. You will enjoy meeting them through their writings. They share my desire to bring hope, encouragement, and a greater measure of faith to your relationship with God.
