Which Way Do I Go?

“For You are my rock and my fortress; for Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.” - Psalm 31:3

We recently purchased a newer vehicle with far more bells and whistles than we know how to use. I am in love with my first ever seat warmer feature and of course, I now enjoy automatic bluetooth connection. But the navigation system is another story. We hop into the car and don’t think for a minute about how to navigate to the new destination. We simply depend on the GPS system to correctly lead us where we need to go. It is frustrating that this system doesn’t recognize our voice and it can never understand what we are asking it to do. We have attempted to manually enter the address we are wanting directions for, but to our dismay, it just doesn’t compute.

It happened again last night when returning home from a friend's house that we had never visited. The GPS on our phone gave us clear directions to our new location, but once more we attempted to learn the car navigation on our return trip home. We quickly found ourselves in a dark, dead end cul-de-sac. We concluded that the dark of night is not the best time to find directions from a GPS that doesn’t work for us.

As I sat down to write this blog, my curiosity led me to ask Google, “What is GPS?” It was very interesting what I found. “Global Positioning System lets us know where we are and where we are going anywhere on Earth.”

Really?

But there is one slight problem. Mr. or Mrs. GPS has to recognize your voice. It has to understand where you need to go. It has to have up-to-date information. Many times we have ended up in a dark parking lot or a faulty, “you have arrived at your destination” message.

In the middle of the dark of night in life, we need a trustworthy and correct GPS. And I have good news for you if you are a child of God: we have an internal GPS. When Jesus was leaving this earth, he told His disciples another was coming that would live within and tell them everything they needed to know.

The Holy Spirit lets us know where we are and where we are going. He is never faulty and He knows the way that we should go. He knows our voice and He hears our call for help. We can always trust His leading.

As I awakened this morning I was a little disturbed in my spirit wondering the answer to many questions. We have several major decisions we are praying through and we just don’t have an answer yet. We really want only what God wants, but we don’t have His direction yet.

I want to share with you the truth that lifted my heart this morning. As I lifted my voice to Him this morning, He answered with His trustworthy word. As we wait, He will give us specific directions in His perfect time. Ponder these and let your faith increase as you depend on your glorious internal GPS.

But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.

I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalms 32:8

"Make me know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

For You are the God of my salvation;

For You I wait all the day." Psalm 25:4-5
