He Says, Therefore I Say

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue;

and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it.”

Proverbs 18:21

I am being greatly impacted by a small book entitled, “Words That Move Mountains” by E.W. Kenyon and Don Gossett. It is helping me to see, in a greater way, the power of my words. If I use words correctly, they can move mountains. If I use them wrong, they can cause destruction in my life.

We underestimate the power of our words, but I am coming to know in a greater way that Satan does not underestimate a single word. He works constantly to turn our words in a negative direction. If he can get us confessing negative words, then he has access to our entire life. Our words actually declare what we believe to be true.

Who am I agreeing with--God or the enemy?

The one that I come into agreement with, I give consent and approval to.

I have often said that when I listen to the enemy and his lies, I actually link arms with him and give him power over my life. Agreement is a linking of arms. My words link me to the power of the enemy or the power of God.

I hope that shakes you as it shakes me. My words are inviting havoc into my life.

Some of us need to stop right now and make a break with some agreements. Our words are as powerful as when God Himself spoke words and all creation came into being. Likewise, my words have creative power. I can say that I love God and want to follow Him closely, but when I speak opposite of what He and His word says, I am not walking with him.

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3

I experienced the tug when I took my grandson for a walk into town a few blocks from his house. I was leading the way and he was happy as could be, until we got to a corner in town that he knew was close to mommy’s office. He began to pull in that direction as I pulled in the opposite direction. I told him we couldn’t visit mommy because she was working. I tried to divert him in every way and make all kind of promises, but he continued to pull and pull until his little hand slipped from mine. I had to chase him down and stop him in the grass. He was determined to go his way and we no longer were able to walk together.

Oh, how I saw myself in Asher. I pull against God anytime that I do not agree with what He says. He will let us go our own way, but we cannot walk in agreement pulling in opposite directions.

I am practicing Gosset’s suggestions of making scriptural affirmations daily. I want to speak in harmony with the Spirit and say what He says.

There is power when I say what He says.

Look with me at the verses I found in scripture today:

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5-6

As we read His word, let’s agree with God with confidence what He says to be true. Then we must take it a step further and “say” what He says.

“Lord, forgive us where we have failed to believe you. And forgive us where we have not lived in agreement with you. Set a guard over our lips that we will speak only truth.”
